Chip 'N Chew Toys is the Center for Avian Rehabilitation & Education Inc.'s (C.A.R.E., Inc.) exclusive line of toys, perches, playgyms, playstands, along with other accessories and giftware, all exclusively for exotic birds and their owners.

Chip 'N Chew Toys was created by Michael Drew, my brother, in 2000. Mike was the original handyman for the Shelter and, as he was there fixing things quite a bit, noticed that the birds needed lots of toys to keep them occupied, and especially needed toys to chew and destroy. He saw one too many cockatoos come in standing on PVC tubing with an acrylic toy in its cage, screaming neurotically, and the owner releasing the bird saying "I'm sick of buying perches and toys for it. It just destroys them anyway."

One day he came to me with the idea of starting up a bird toy company, one where reasonably priced toys would be made for the birds to play with and destroy. If he could keep the prices down, more people would purchase more toys for their birds to destroy, and we would see a lot less of the neuroses we see from birds who don't have enough to do in their lives. Hence, the Chip 'N Chew Toys name and company came into being. Last summer, Mike changed careers, and sold the toy company to me.

What we've done is to make Chip 'N Chew Toys part of the Center for Avian Rehab (C.A.R.E., Inc.) Our volunteers are helping to cut, sand, dye and assemble the products. They will also be packing the products that you order from us. They will be hauling the packages to the Post Office. Why are they volunteering to do all this? Bottom line, they are doing this for the birds - for the birds at our facility and for your birds at home. Birds who deserve to have the kinds of toys that are fun to play with and destroy, and that are as safe as any toy can be.

Welcome to our line of Chip 'N Chew Toys. I hope your birds will enjoy the toys as much as our birds at the Shelter do. And, as always, we welcome your comments and suggestions.
