Pickle

Pickle, a Bare-Eyed Cockatoo, had a badly infected and abscessed toe upon arrival at C.A.R.E.  He had feces on on many parts of his body; he also had blood and pus on his feathers where his toe came in contact with them.

After treatment with antibiotics, foot soaks, and several good baths, Pickle was back on the mend when the pictures below were taken on May 13.  His toe remains scarred but the infection was eliminated--no need for amputation!  In addition, he gained 14 grams from April 2 to May 15: eight of those were in his first five full days at C.A.R.E.

April 2: 310 g        April 8: 318 g        May 15: 324 g
