C.A.R.E. Adoption Policies

Most of the birds that come to us have been in multiple homes.  Many of them come to us with physical, behavioral, and nutritional problems--sometimes even mental problems.  In these cases, we are looking for experienced bird owners who are equipped to handle these problems.  Therefore, we have written out some of our adoption policies.

1.  We reserve the right to refuse ANY adoption.

2.  All adoptions are final; NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN.

3.  Payment is due in full at the time of adoption--NO EXCEPTIONS.  We accept cash, checks, Master Card, Visa, and Discover.

4.  At our discretion, large birds will only be adopted to homes with large bird experience. 

5.  If you've never owned a bird before, we will adopt smaller birds if you meet our criteria.  Smaller birds are finches, budgies, lovebirds, cockatiels, small conures, etc. 

 

Procedures for adopting large birds:

1. The Bird Wanted Questionnaire must be fully completed and signed.
2. All birds already owned must be vet checked annually.
3. An avian veterinarian reference is required.
4. C.A.R.E., Inc., has the option to do an in home inspection to make sure the cage size, food, toys, perches, etc., are appropriate.
5. There may be a 24 hour waiting period for taking bird(s) home.

Procedures for adopting small birds:

1. Bird Wanted Questionnaire must be fully completed and signed.
2. We strongly recommend that your birds at home be vet checked annually. Potential adopters that have their birds regularly checked will be given preference.
3. You must bring the cage with you that the new bird will be living in so that we may determine if it is the appropriate size and if the perches, toys, etc., are approptiate.
4. There may be a 24 hour waiting period for taking bird(s) home.
